One reason why the Clintons have sentimental involvement with Haiti is because they spent their honeymoon there. 
Bill Clinton himself reveals it in one of his media interviews.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton arrived in Haiti in a Coast Guard C-130 transport. They brought with them bottled water, packaged food, soap and other supplies. She is acting as the top U.S. relief coordinator.
