Initial Jobless Claims Up 1,000 To 434,000

The US Labor Department revealed Thursday that initial jobless claims came in at 434,000 for the week ended on January 2.

This was up 1,000 from the previous week’s revised total of 433,000.

Continuing claims, a statistic that measures the number of people receiving ongoing unemployment help, dropped 179,000 to 4.802 million.
