Batshit insane

The last time I was on VirginBlue, I flicked through the TV stations on the little screen in front of me, even though I was not connected to hear the audio, while waiting for takeoff. I settled on the Glenn Beck program because I was immediately attracted to his wild gesticulations and weird facial expressions. I’m a keen observer of body language and am fascinated with watching how people interract and behave.

Well! I ain’t no expert but that man is crazy! Of course, a lot of it is exaggerated and “entertainment”, but even so, it made me wonder why people watch him, even if they generally agree with him. There is nothing attractive about him and he’s just, frankly, too cuckoo. Rantings of a mad man.

Not only that, but he just has no credibility whatsoever. His rampant witchhunts and ravings on TV should surely make people ask what his personal agenda really is.

Oh wait, people who watch Fox News religiously… Of course! *slaps forehead*

As for Beck’s McCarthyism, John V. Santore wrote on the MediaMatters site:

At a time when conservatives are unable to find new leadership or present new ideas to address the challenges facing our nation, it is perhaps fitting that their media leaders and spokespeople — individuals like Glenn Beck — have fallen back on a 60-year-old slander: communist. Beck’s forum consists of his radio program, his nightly show on Fox News, and his books. The witnesses he calls at his hearings form the endless parade of political demagogues he hosts as guests. And one by one, he is targeting the president’s advisers — not based on their current actions or statements, not because of any actual policy initiatives they have proposed since President Obama took office, but rather through the use of guilt-by-association reasoning or because of cherry-picked comments from their past, often provided in a highly misleading context. It’s just the kind of vitriolic irresponsibility that McCarthy specialized in, too.

Back in late July, Beck said that “racist” President Obama had ”exposed himself as a guy” with “a deep seated hatred for white people or the white culture. I don’t know what it is…”

When Fox’s Brian Kilmeadeon pointed out that many people in Obama’s administration are white, so “you can’t say he doesn’t like white people,” Beck pressed on. “I’m not saying he doesn’t like white people, I’m saying he has a problem,” Beck said. “This guy is, I believe, a racist.”

Puhleese! Obama is half-white and half-black and was raised by his white mother and white grandparents. Does he even think about what he’s saying? When and where has Obama made racist remarks about white people? And note he doesn’t provide any examples on why or how he has come to the conclusion that Obama is a racist.

Is he a fucking entertainer for ratings or does he honest to God believe that?

Well, no matter, because as of 15 September 2009, he has lost more than 60 advertisers on his program on Fox News. And the revenue lost! Rupert the moneybags must surely be watching this.

But wait. He doesn’t stop there. Last Saturday, on 12 September, right-wing protesters gathered in Washington DC for a march to oppose health reform and President Obama:

The event, scheduled intentionally on September 12 to coincide with the anniversary of the day following the September 11 terrorist attacks, was conceived largely by Fox News’ Glenn Beck. However, most of the day-to-day organizing has been orchestrated by a now familiar set of lobbyists and Republican operatives who helped plan anti-Obama “grassroots” tea party events since February. In addition, a set of far-right groups are supporting the event, bringing along their members to join in on the Obama-bashing.

In the past, Beck has said he “hates” the families of the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Glenn Beck claimed that a ”really conservative” estimate is 500,000, while Rush Limbaugh claimed an over 2 million crowd. PolitiFact.com spoke to a Fire Department officer who unofficially told one reporter that he thought between 60,000 and 75,000 people had shown up.

Whatever the figure, conservatives and right-wing nutters are clearly and predictably bragging and exaggerating. But so fucking what, because…

Suck it, bitches.

Nevertheless, Glenn Beck is someone to watch and monitor and try to prevent from causing damage. He’s crazy and he won’t stop.
